Athens (Greece) International Airport took a significant leap forward in parking management by implementing its Access Control System in 2023, at the Arrivals and Departures levels. DESIGNA's and Cityzen's innovative solution not only solves congestion issues but also strongly emphasizes safety and environmentally conscious practices in designated parking zones at the Arrivals and Departures levels in Athens.

Cityzen, serving as the distributor of Designa for Greece and Cyprus, played a pivotal role in the installation of the CONNECT series parking equipment. The seamless integration of this system adheres to international standards while ensuring minimal disruption to the regular flow of traffic.

The Access Control System includes nine entrance lanes, eleven exit lanes, with one bus exit lane, 19 license plate recognition cameras, ten automatic pay stations supporting various payment methods, LED signals for efficient traffic management, and variable message signs (VMS) providing various information messages.

Designed with the customer experience in mind, the system facilitates quick entry by swiftly recording vehicle license plates and issuing tickets seamlessly. Travelers benefit from a complimentary 10-minute period for drop-off and pick-up travelers, promoting efficiency and convenience.

For extended stays exceeding the 10-minute limit, payment is easily settled – whether in cash or by card – at automated payment stations located at exits, eliminating delays for drivers.

Another feature addresses the safe transit of city buses through the departure level. The city bus has to cross all exit lanes when leaving the airport. Upon its exit, the bus lane barrier opens, while all other exit barriers remain closed throughout its transit. Once the bus has passed, the other barriers return to normal operation, maintaining both safety and the smooth flow of traffic.

Our parking solution equipment brings forth several advantages, including enhanced comfort and time-saving benefits for drivers, a rapid transit capacity of at least 600 vehicles per hour per lane, tailored functions catering to diverse driver groups, and a substantial upgrade of curbside areas at the Arrival and Departure levels.

Cityzen is setting a new benchmark for Athens International Airport with the integration of DESIGNA parking devices, optimizing operational efficiency and the concept of parking.
