Bringing 21st-century mobility to a growing city
The City of Grand Rapids wants to provide residents, workers and visitors with 21st-century mobility. Parking is part of a mobility solution, and Grand Rapids manages a system made up of street parking, ramps and lots. That is why the city keeps broadening its transportation options and strengthening what it has.
Turning lots into smart, paid parking
The city works to improve quality of life by encouraging active transportation and access to cultural life. It wanted to convert neighbourhood and business-district lots into paid parking, offer special validation tickets for visitors and events, and add customer-centric features such as pre-booking.
A fully integrated ABACUS system across the city
Grand Rapids is Michigan's second-largest city, with a population of about 192,000. Pay stations were installed in seven districts as early as 2018. Designa's task was to build a fully integrated ABACUS parking management system in three car parks around the city, including new features such as pre-booking and validation tickets for residents and visitors. The project was completed successfully by 2019.
