Why Fraport, one of 200 airports worldwide, chose Designa's parking management system
Frankfurt is Germany's largest airport, number 3 in Europe and number 12 worldwide. More than 60 million passenger movements a year meet 14,000 spaces for seasonal parkers and 15,000 public parking spaces here. A parking operation of this scale has to run without failure and process every transaction reliably, around the clock.
At the end of 2012, Designa won a Europe-wide tender for the new parking management system. The deciding factor was a migration concept that allowed the rebuild during live operation, without closing the car park. Just under two years later, the first terminals were in use.

Fraport manages 57,000 parking spaces on and off the airport, spread across car parks and open areas. Modernising this grown system without interrupting operations was the real challenge.
Two requirements were paramount: absolute reliability and the safe processing of the enormous transaction volume of an airport of this size.

Migrated in two years, highly available around the clock
Based on a detailed migration concept, Designa installed the new entry and exit terminals as well as the pay stations during live operation. The IT system is designed as a high-availability cluster and fully integrated into the client's IT environment.
50 operator stations run day-to-day operations. A comprehensive Designa service plan keeps the system available around the clock, seven days a week.
