One networked system across four NHS hospital sites
In 2015 Northumbria Healthcare began a new initiative at four of its hospitals in the north east of England. The Trust replaced the existing systems at four large NHS hospital sites across 23 miles. The new Designa ABACUS technology replaced an old Pay & Display system and networked these car parks under one server in a central control room, managing over 1,800 parking spaces and answering all intercom calls centrally.
One parking policy for the whole Trust
The primary goals were a better parking service for visitors, patients and staff, and a central database to implement a single parking policy across the whole Trust. The Trust also wanted greater operational efficiency, better use of staff at each site, improved management of Blue Badge validations and compliance with NHS guidelines, all with a state-of-the-art, future-proof solution.
ANPR, central database and flexible payments
The new system includes LPR for visitor and staff parking, staff RFID easy parking, a centralised database, four-way ticket reading, intercom with driver camera, numerous payment options including contactless, centralised reporting and the ability to add further car parks and sites.
“We noticed that our previous barrier system was aging and starting to fail. After going to tender, we found DESIGNA met our needs and those of our patients, visitors and staff. The new pay-on-foot system is much easier and simpler for our visitors and patients and helps with their overall experience at the hospitals."
